Two games have been leaked from Gearbox, and one of them might follow the open world style, according to the job postings.
Comicbook has reported that Gearbox, currently under the Embracer Group but perhaps eventually under new ownership due to the Swedish publisher’s restructuring, may be working on something, as it’s been four years since the release of Borderlands 3 and some time since the release of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (although the latter’s DLCs weren’t a huge success, while the base game was; the game’s publisher, Take-Two, CEO Strauss Zelnick has described the base game’s achievements as one of the best franchise launches in years).
The site saw on a Gearbox developer’s LinkedIn profile that the two games are in development. He may or may not have misspelled it. According to him, the first game to be released will be Borderlands 4 (it’s supposed to be about finding Lilith), which makes sense since Borderlands 3 came out a while ago. And Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 might be based on Borderlands 4 technology, but that’s just speculation, not confirmed fact. Meanwhile, a Borderlands movie is being made, and Tiny Tina will be in it…
Gearbox Entertainment is looking for more people, but one of the jobs requires open-world experience. The Senior Level Designer must be familiar with the Unreal Engine, with a preference for Unreal 4 experience in the AAA space, a firm grasp of modern FPS level design techniques, experience building open worlds, co-op or online games, and a deep understanding of modern AAA action games and production practices. The successful candidate will work as part of a world-building team that includes level designers, level artists, mission designers, and lighting artists, and will assist the leads in designing and building major pieces of content.
The job ad doesn’t say whether it’s an existing franchise or a new IP, but we’re linking the rumor to the job posting…
