OD: Kojima’s New Game Had The Most Press Coverage About TGA 2023

According to FanCensus, the OD, apparently used as an acronym for Overdose, was the most talked about announcement at The Game Awards 2023.

Geoff Keighley, host and organizer of The Game Awards, was not kidding when he said there would be a lot of new announcements (there were sixty-one), and FanCensus’ analysis concluded that of these, Hideo Kojima’s next project, OD, received the most coverage. We would have expected something else from Kojima (there was room for a Death Stranding 2 trailer during the show, right?), but instead the project with Xbox Game Studios popped up.

Jeff Grubb said about this project that it started as a Google Stadia exclusive, but will now be published by Microsoft and will use their cloud technology. We first heard about the game last June, courtesy of Tom Henderson. Then Margaret Qualley made an appearance, but we didn’t see her in the recently unveiled cast (Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schaffer, Udo Kier), but she could still show up in OD… at most she won’t have a major role.

According to Kojima, OD will be a very unique, ever-changing, new style of game, or even a new media format. Kojima is working on it with Jordan Peele, a horror film director (and that’s why the game developers were critical: they talked about nothing for more than six minutes; it was in the news yesterday), and will collaborate with others, but we won’t know about them until later. Since we are still a few years away from the release, there will be time to introduce them…

But let’s take a look at FanCensus’ top 10 list: the free roguelike, Valhalla DLC for God of War: Ragnarök; Marvel’s Blade (Arkane Lyon); Exodus (Archetype’s sci-fi RPG); Monster Hunter: Wilds (Capcom); Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II (Ninja Theory); Jurassic Park Survival (Saber Interactive); Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi (SEGA); and Dredge’s DLC, Dave the Diver. There are bigger names among these, though. Where’s Hello Games’ Light No Fire?
