According to a rumor, the successor of the Xbox series (if they still use the name Xbox series, just with different letters, we won’t comment it in a press-friendly way!) will have an advantage over the PlayStation 6 in terms of release date…
In the video embedded below, RedGamingTech talked about how Microsoft has changed the timeline for its next console after the FTC, the US Federal Trade Commission, leaked some documents from the Redmond-based company earlier this year. The sources said that the new console is expected a year earlier than average, the technology vendor will not change, but it could still be a disadvantage for Microsoft.
The new Xbox will be powered by an AMD processor, and one of them will be Zen 5 architecture, as Zen 6 will not be ready until 2026. The reason Microsoft wants to release the console with such a lead (perhaps a year) over its rival is to set the tone and message for the new generation, as it did with the Xbox 360 (which was a good year ahead of the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii). However, there is a risk in an early release: the hardware will not be as powerful as the PlayStation 6, which could even use the Zen 6 architecture, but as a kind of leapfrogging, Microsoft could release a more powerful console itself later (instead of launching two versions out of the box, as it did with the Xbox series).
According to the rumors, if the Redmond tech giant comes up with two models in the next generation, the cheaper model will be cloud-based (in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate there is Xbox Cloud Gaming for a reason), which sounds logical considering the expansion of Game Pass. However, let’s not forget that the console is still at least two years away, and since new consoles are usually released in the fall, we could say three years.
As always, we would like to emphasize that this is not official, so we are talking about rumors.
