TECH NEWS – The “greens” apparently want to retire the GeForce GTX 1600 graphics cards with this GPU…
So far we’ve heard that the new model of the previous generation GeForce RTX 3050 based on Ampere architecture will be released in January (the same time we can expect the release of the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super…), but in February. On the Chinese Board Channel forum we can also read that the US pricing will be mostly in line with the card’s capabilities, below $200, at $180.
The current RTX 3050 has 8 GB of VRAM and starts at $230, while the RTX 4060 (because there is no desktop version of the RTX 4050 on the Ada Lovelace architecture…) is available for $300. Except that AMD laughingly throws an 8GB Radeon RX 6600 at us for $200, and the Intel Arc A580 can be had for $170. In other words, Nvidia is simply not competitive in this price range right now, and that’s why they’re relying on the gutted RTX 3050.
Its specifications are GA-107-325-Kx SKU, PG173 SKU16 PCB, 2048 cores (20% less than the 8-Gig model), 1470 MHz clock speed (17% slower), and 6 GB VRAM with 96-bit memory bus (25% less in both factors). However, the card with three DP and one HDMI connector may not need an external (6/8-pin) power connector, as its power consumption of 70-100W can be easily managed via the PCI-E connector (if it’s 75W or less, you certainly don’t need to connect an extra cable from the power supply!)
While it’s understandable that Nvidia wants to launch something in the lower price range, we’re not talking about an RTX 4050. It’s not worth it for the company to put together a real budget card based on Ada architecture, so the 6 gig RTX 3050 will be a good choice for those who only play eSports games (e.g. Counter-Strike 2) and don’t have the financial means to upgrade to a more powerful GPU…
