According to plot details for the new Spider-Man 4, the film will feature some surprising cameos. Moreover, the cinema can even become a “battle of heroes” similar to Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War!

Not much is known about the upcoming Spider-Man movie, but Tom Holland is already in talks with the studio to reprise his role as Peter Parker, who will likely start from scratch as a superhero after Doctor Strange wipes everyone’s memories of him.

A recent rumour has Charlie Cox’s Daredevil teaming up with Spider-Man in a Hell’s Kitchen law enforcement team. There are also rumours about the appearance of Ant-Man.

However, a new rumour outlines a much more ominous concept. According to reliable X-based commentator @Cryptic4KQual, Spider-Man 4 will revive the plot of Civil War. “It was described to me to be a Street Level CIVIL WAR,” he shared, later clarifying, “When I say Civil War, I mean the layout out but STREET LEVEL.” Cryptic4KQual also slipped a bombshell into the X thread, saying, “Kate, Jessica, Echo…” and suggested more names when asked about additional cameos, further supporting the theory that Sony and the MCU are converging.

In Civil War, Chris Evans’ Captain America faced off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, which divided the rest of the Avengers over the issue of government surveillance.

Thus, the “street level” comment may refer to the federal government’s involvement. In the upcoming Spider-Man sequel, the hero-versus-hero conflict probably won’t come to a head. Daredevil could be the key to this street-level battle if he gets a big role in the movie. After all, he is a self-proclaimed lawyer by night and a New York lawyer by day. Daredevil’s reaction to a “new” superhero in the same area could cause friction. To support this theory, fans have pointed out that Spider-Man and Daredevil have canonically clashed several times in the comics.

That said, there’s still a chance fans will get the Spider-Man and Daredevil team-up they’ve always wanted. Based on additional names dropped by Cryptic4KQual, some fans believe Spider-Man could be leading a team of Daredevil, Hawkeye, Jessica Jones, and Echo against the “Sinister Six” on the street. It’s still unclear how much screen time the additional heroes will get.

As @Cryptic4KQual added: “Any major Avengers addition might end up being minor, though as of right now, it’s unclear to me what roles they’d play, Ant-Man, for instance.”

If these rumours turn out to be accurate, it will be a significant upheaval in the MCU. Team mergers and changes in alliances could create the excitement Marvel Studios needs. The company has had a tough year at the box office due to recent flops like the Marvels. Perhaps attaching some of their lesser-known characters to the successful Spider-Man saga will help Marvel Studios weather the downturn with dignity. Or maybe weaving too many storylines dilutes a good thing. Regardless, Spider-Man fans have something to chew on while they wait for more official news.
