Sony has confirmed the postponement of Stellar Blade, an eagerly awaited action-adventure game initially expected to launch in 2023, now rescheduled for 2024. The game, first introduced as Project Eve and developed for various platforms including PS4, Xbox One, and PC, is set to release exclusively on PS5. The gaming community has expressed disappointment over the delay, as Stellar Blade has generated significant anticipation since its announcement.

Sony has formally delayed the imminent release of its PlayStation 5 exclusive action-adventure title, Stellar Blade. First revealed as Project Eve in 2019, the game was initially developed for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The new title, Stellar Blade, was unveiled at the September 2022 State of Play event, marking it as a PS5 exclusive with a planned 2023 release.

Besides the name change, a trailer of Stellar Blade was showcased at the State of Play event, offering insights into the game’s narrative, visual style, and combat system. The action-packed footage captivated many gamers, who noted similarities in its music and combat system to Nier Automata, though this comparison remains unconfirmed. As 2023 draws to a close, it’s now clear that Stellar Blade won’t be released this year, and until now, there was no official statement regarding this.

In a post on PlayStation.Blog highlighting upcoming features for 2024, the PS5 exclusive Stellar Blade was officially delayed, receiving a new release window in 2024. Unfortunately, a more precise release date remains unknown, and the developer Shift Up has been relatively quiet about the project.

Stellar Blade is the first console project for the South Korean developer Shift Up, previously focused only on mobile games with titles like Destiny Child and Project NIKKE: The Goddess of Victory. One of the company’s co-founders, artist Kim Hung Tae, has experience working on games like the Magna Carta series of RPGs and the MMO Blade & Soul.

Set in the near future, Stellar Blade tells the story of Eve, a member of a paratrooper squad determined to reclaim Earth from invaders known as NA:tives. The post-apocalyptic world, overrun with a variety of bizarre creatures, challenges Eve to defeat them while uncovering a secret that might aid in overthrowing Earth’s conquerors.

The game fully leverages the PS5’s capabilities, both in terms of graphics and the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback features. The latter will be particularly emphasized through the range of weapons used by Eve, with the technology becoming prominent during combat. As Eve parries and dodges in battle, the Beta Gauge gradually fills, allowing her to activate various abilities like piercing enemy armor or interrupting their combos. Similarly, executing successful combos fills the Burst Gauge, used for applying buffs or launching powerful attacks.
