MOVIE NEWS – Aquaman 2 star Amber Heard has finally spoken about the release of the DC film, ending weeks of silence despite her role as Mera in the sequel…
Aquaman 2 star Amber Heard has finally spoken out about the film’s release. Unusually for a movie of this calibre, he remained silent during the promotional period and at the launch of the DC sequel.
Heard has managed to stay out of the spotlight after a gruelling legal battle with Johnny Depp: As soon as the verdict came out, Depp’s fans demanded that Warner Bros remove the actress from Aquaman 2.
Although WB did not cut the character, Heard’s role as Mera was significantly reduced in the film. Moreover, the actress was nowhere to be seen during the promotions. Mera was missing from most Aquaman 2 posters. Everyone realized that the film’s makers did not want the actress to speak to the media.
Heard took to Instagram to upload throwback photos from when he was filming Aquaman 2. The pictures show Heard in her famous red wig and having fun. In the caption, he spoke positively about the release of the film. She expressed her gratitude to the fans who celebrated her return as Mera. Heard wrote: “After all this time, Aquaman 2 made its splash (sorry, it’s too easy). Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera’s AQ return. Thank you so much. #aquaman.”
It’s no secret that Heard’s role as Mera in Aquaman 2 was reportedly cut due to controversy surrounding the star. During the defamation trial, Heard claimed that the case affected her role. Also, he had to fight hard to be in the movie.
However, director James Wan said that the franchise always intended for Heard’s character to feature less in the film and claimed that Aquaman 2 was always intended to focus on Arthur Curry and his half-brother Orm.
The whole background drama hurt the film. By now, fans have more or less lost interest in the Jason Momoa-starring franchise. As a result, when Aquaman 2 hit theatres on December 22, 2023, it received negative reviews. In addition, fans complained about the quality of the film and pulled Warner Bros for ending the DCEU in such a disastrous way. As of now, Aquaman’s future is uncertain due to changes in leadership at DC Studios. According to reports, Momoa may also play the role of Lobo in the new DC universe. So, things are not looking too bright for the Atlanteans…
