Microsoft Bans an Xbox Player for a Year for Recording Erotic Scenes in Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios Reacts Angrily to the Incident!

Larian Studios has addressed reports of players of Baldur’s Gate 3 receiving bans for capturing gameplay footage on Xbox Series X/S. Unfortunately, this issue is not the only one affecting the Baldur’s Gate 3 experience on Xbox, as there have been inexplicable disappearances of save files since the game’s release.

An Xbox user was recently hit with an unexpected year-long ban after capturing three clips from Baldur’s Gate 3 containing sexually explicit content. By default, videos and screenshots captured on Xbox are uploaded to Microsoft’s servers, leading to unpleasant surprises for those unaware of the terms of service or the automatic uploads. As players progress in the game and relationships between characters deepen, the occurrence of adult content increases. Consequently, more Xbox users are inadvertently finding themselves unable to load games requiring an internet connection.

Michael Douse, Larian’s Director of Publishing, expressed on Twitter that the studio had received reports of Xbox players being banned for TOS violations due to their “gameplay content.” He then confirmed that Larian is in discussions with Microsoft regarding this issue, describing the situation as “annoying and uncool.” Although no specific timeline for a resolution was provided, Douse later pointed out that adult content in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be disabled in the game’s options menu.

Given the prevalence of adult content in the game, it might ease the burden of ban appeals for Microsoft if they were to relax the rules for Baldur’s Gate 3. According to statistics released by Larian, many players are simply looking to have fun with characters like Shadowheart, mindflayers, and devils. In fact, the community’s enthusiasm for various companions and their boldness has led to the Sex% gameplay becoming a highly competitive speedrunning category.

However, until further developments indicate otherwise, it should be assumed that Microsoft’s policy on sexually explicit content will not make an exception for Baldur’s Gate 3. Fortunately, Xbox users have the option to disable automatic video and screenshot uploads, though a USB is required for transferring them elsewhere.

Additionally, Larian has confirmed that it continues to investigate the save file issues on Xbox, which persist despite several attempts to resolve them. Until the issue is definitively fixed, Baldur’s Gate 3 players might want to consider a potential workaround.
