[XDD 2024] Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2: Release Date Announced, But Ninja Theory Has Bad News Too! [VIDEO]

Fans looking forward to Ninja Theory’s upcoming sequel, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, may be disappointed to find out what the release will look like…

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has been confirmed as a digital-only release. Many gamers who prefer physical media were shocked by the news. Headlining Xbox’s January 2024 Developer Direct, Hellblade 2 made a huge splash. It introduced even more of the dark northern setting, incredibly detailed combat, and finally gave the long-awaited release date.

Fans of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which was initially released in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and then a year later for Xbox One, had a lot to wait for.

However, we don’t have to wait long for the sequel. At the XDD event, it was announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will be released on May 21st. In addition, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one!

But after the announcement, Xbox Wire confirmed that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will be released exclusively in a digital edition. He’s giving up on releasing a physical version altogether. This is sure to disappoint those who prefer physical shopping. Perhaps the “lower” $50 price tag will help correct the strange decision. Of course, Hellblade 2 will be available on Game Pass like any other first-release Xbox game, so that’s probably how most Xbox users will play the title.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was essentially an indie game and, as such, was only released digitally, which made sense.

However, since Ninja Theory has been part of Xbox Game Studios for quite some time now, and considering that the studio strengthened its Xbox support for Hellblade 2, the lack of a physical release of the sequel is somewhat puzzling since it is one of the biggest AAA first-party games that the Xbox has been on the palette in recent years.

Remedy Entertainment’s much-anticipated sequel, Alan Wake 2, recently caused quite a stir. When it announced that it would be released digitally only. The game became one of the most praised titles of 2023. It won in three categories at The Game Awards. All that being said, Hellblade 2 could still be viable despite lacking a physical option.

More than a year after its release, in 2018, the original Hellblade received a physical release. Maybe something similar is planned for Hellblade 2. But with the much larger presence of Xbox Game Pass and the continued and unfortunate decline of physical media, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up…
