Norges Bank Investment Management interviewed Sony’s CEO, who confirmed that PlayStation will remain on the console, but that the gaming experience will be delivered to PC, mobile and cloud. We’ve already seen a lot of games ported to PC (the next big thing will be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, unfortunately we won’t see an unofficial port of that…), but mobile hasn’t really taken off yet. That’s why they acquired Savage Game Studios, and for the cloud they launched PlayStation Portal, which we think started with a lack of functionality.

“Well, we have a subscription business model. At the same time, people usually play one game at a time, so an all-you-can-eat type of many games may not be as valuable compared to video streaming services. We have kind of balanced a hybrid service on PlayStation Network: both subscription and paid content,” Yoshida said of the company’s subscription system. Subscription growth has slowed recently (and Sony is too chicken to say how many subscribers PlayStation Plus has).

And on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has published a top list of the most downloaded games by platform for 2023.
