MOVIE NEWS – Dune 2 (officially Dune: Part Two) got off to a great start among critics, who are foaming at the mouth trying to describe how fantastic it is…
Dune 2 (Dune: Part Two), directed by Denis Villeneuve, continues the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who, in alliance with the Fremen, fights against the Harkonnens and the empire that supports them. In addition to Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem are also involved in his mission. The cast is completed by Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux.
The first Dune set the bar high for the second film, as it received 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
However, according to Deadline’s summary, The Dune: Part Two has already received reviews that can immediately make it one of – if not “the” – most successful films of the year!
Most critics consider the film to be the director’s greatest and most impressive work to date. Many highlight the excellent story management and “action sequences not seen since The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”.
Among the actors, the performances of Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler were positively received by the critics. Interestingly, while some people think that the 2 hours and 40 minutes playing time is a bit much, others complained that the movie was too short! In any case, it is a fact that the term “masterpiece” appears in almost all of the reviews. Denis Villeneuve probably set the bar very high. Both for the other directors and for himself.
Will Alia only be present as an embryo in Dune 2?!
The Dune: Part Two may bring about a massive change in the character of Alia Atreides. This can lead to significant deviations from Frank Herbert’s iconic novel. Dune 2 covers the second half of Herbert’s novel, which should leave plenty of time to prepare the exact adaptation.
However, the first description of the film suggests that Alia is an embryo who gives advice to her mother from the womb, which could have severe consequences for the story of Dune 2.
Turning Alia into an embryo in Dune 2 may result in several significant deviations from the original novel. Without going into too much detail – to avoid spoilers – this decision may make the two-year time jump between the first and second half of the Dune novel unnecessary.
All this may exclude the possibility of Paul and Chani having a son, which event has an essential effect on the development of the later plot of the novel(s).
Alia is a strange but decisive character in the story. At least two points in the story, as an actor, he plays a role that someone will have to take over. (Unless the movie basically rewrites the ending of the book.) It seems a logical step for Lady Jessica to take over the role of her daughter. (Who might be controlling him somehow from the womb.)
Both Baron Harkonnen and IV. This turn of events could significantly impact the history and fate of Emperor Shaddam. Not to mention what questions this all raises regarding the sequel, The Messiah of the Dunes, which has been floating around for some time…
Who will be Alia’s “voice”?
It is interesting that at yesterday’s world premiere of Dune 2, held in London, to everyone’s surprise, Anya Taylor-Joy appeared among the cast. Taylor-Joy has not yet been included in the official casting. According to IMDB, it is still unknown who he will play.
At the same time, based on what we have learned about Alia, it is easy to imagine that – since Alia does not need to be played by a child actor – Anya Taylor-Joy will step into the role.
Possibly only in a voice-acting capacity. But it is also easy to imagine that Alia appears to Lady Jessica as an adult, in the form of visions. In this case, it will be a particular pleasure to see the extremely talented actress.
