The Nintendo Switch Successor May Not Arrive This Year!

Nintendo has reportedly made some changes to the release date of the highly popular Switch successor.

A Brazilian journalist, Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, and Eurogamer have both said that the successor to the Nintendo Switch might not hit stores until the first quarter of 2025. In his tweet, Lippe claimed to have heard from five different sources on three continents that the Big N’s new hardware will not be released this year. On the O X Do Controle podcast, he added that his sources have been expecting the first three months of 2025 for a while, but two of them said that Nintendo has pushed it back from 2024, which will see more games released for the Switch by then. Lippe doesn’t know Nintendo’s full release schedule, but he is aware of some “smaller” unannounced games and believes the Japanese company is saving its big releases for the Switch’s successor.

Andy Robinson, editor-in-chief of VGC, said he has heard from two developer sources that they are developing for the Switch successor with a deadline of early 2025, but could not confirm if that timeframe applies to the console. Tom Phillips, editor-in-chief of Eurogamer, has also heard about this period from within the industry, adding that the Switch was also available from March 2017 and that this period could be mimicked by the new hardware (the tried-and-tested formula would not be changed by the capital N).

VGC has since updated its article: multiple sources have told the publication that Nintendo recently informed publishers of the delay, so the new console could arrive in early 2025 instead of late 2024, with one source saying the reason is to provide the company with a stronger first-party game lineup. Meanwhile, Nintendo has yet to officially announce the new console, but Universo Nintendo has previously reported that the Big N’s publishing partners and several studios are preparing to announce projects for the Switch’s successor in March.

So there might actually be an announcement from Nintendo before the Game Developers Conference, as we’ve heard rumors.
