The first act of the new The Witcher trilogy could see some major changes if CD Projekt RED makes a significant change to one of the key components of The Witcher world.
His story, his voice (by Doug Cockle), and his complicated relationship with the law are all hallmarks of the three games. But Geralt isn’t the only monster hunter worthy of the protagonist role. Since the Polish company has started a new trilogy during the Polaris project, maybe a change could be made here, or maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to hire a new protagonist.
The previous games were set in a turbulent time for Koninten. Nilfgaard is invading the northern kingdoms and by now you can count the witchers on two hands. Regarding Ciri, Geralt becomes involved in this conflict after our hero receives her as a gift because of the law. Ciri then develops into a gifted witcher, and the third part of the trilogy will conclude the story of Geralt and Ciri in more ways than one. Not all endings are happy endings. Geralt is looking for a rest in the Blood and Wine DLC, and CDPR should consider his retirement.
In the first part, Kaer Morhen, Geralt’s base is attacked and the potions and mutagens needed for the Trial of Grasses process are stolen. This process gives the butterflies either stronger abilities or kills them. This is how Geralt got silvery white hair, how he became a monster killer or how he can see in the night. Part of the process takes place on Uma in The Witcher 3, but the whole thing is still a mystery. All we know is that seven out of ten children die during the trial…
The birth of a new witcher would give the new protagonist a new role and put him at odds with Geralt. And there could be other schools, not just the wolf school that Geralt belongs to. There are also the schools of the cat, the bear, the viper, the crane, the griffin and the manticore, as well as the recently announced lynx. There’s a lot to choose from and even Ciri would be a good protagonist…
