MOVIE NEWS – Thomas Haden Church’s claim is in line with Sam Raimi himself saying he would love to work with Tobey Maguire again, whether in a Spider-Man movie or not…
This movie has been talked about for over ten years now. Tobey Maguire’s return to the Spider-Man costume in a new Sam Raimi Spider-Man solo film and the continuation of the events of the third film released in 2007 is what many moviegoers have been wanting for a decade and a half. At first glance, it seems unlikely that this will happen. But hearing this and that can be surprising.
It’s clear that Sony’s plans have gone in a different direction with a different actor, but even with Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi, the former director of the first Spider-Man movies, there’s a chance it could happen.
Thomas Haden Church, who played Sandman in Spider-Man 3, pointed this out. In an interview with ComicBook, he was asked about this possibility.
“There’s been some rumors that they might ask me to do another Spider-Man, and I’d do it tomorrow,” Church began. “You know, they’ve never asked me to show up in another movie, another Marvel film,” he said when it was discussed in the interview that he might return as Sandman in Avengers: Secret Wars. “But, you know, I think Sam is gonna do another Spider-Man with Tobey [Maguire], and that’s the one…” – opined the actor.
Could a Sam Raimi Spider-Man 4 be made with Tobey Maguire?
“They had an option for me to do Spider-Man 4 when there was going to be a Spider-Man 4. They had an option on me to come back. So if it happens, that would be fantastic. I’m getting a little old” – closed the conversation. Raimi, for his part, said at the end of 2022 that he was open to directing the film (also via Comicbook): “I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”
