A Helldivers 2 developer recently spoke out online, calling for compassion and unity after fans of his game made disparaging remarks about Halo.
A Helldivers 2 developer recently responded to a post on Twitter. In this, his game has been compared to Microsoft’s legendary Halo franchise. Helldivers 2 is currently one of the most popular video games on the Internet. Breaking records on both PlayStation Store and Steam. The game literally became an overnight sensation, but it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
If we were to say that the release of Helldivers 2 was a success, we would be putting it quite mildly, because the game is breaking records left and right.
It consistently ranks among the top five most-played games on Steam. The number of players and sales figures on PlayStation 5 also exceed expectations. The game deploys up to four players into a harsh alien environment where they must use a very limited amount of resources to complete their missions.
Helldivers 2 developer speaks out against negative comparisons
According to a post on Twitter, Helldivers 2 is better than the Halo franchise as a whole. That must be a bold claim, but at least 1,000 others agreed. However, this comparison did not sit well with Helldivers 2 developer Johan Pilestedt. He asked:
“Why compare? Just let gamers love and enjoy both, either or neither. We need more compassion and union in the world, and less rivalry.”
The developer questions why players need to constantly compare popular titles. Stating that the world needs more compassion and unity. Although the game is incredibly violent and satirical, this message is reflected in the game itself. After all, players must build a winning team based on good communication skills and general friendliness. The general aesthetics of the two games are similar. Helldivers drop down to various uninhabitable planets via pods similar to the ODST pods in the Halo series. However, the actual gameplay is quite different.
The game follows the original Helldivers, released in 2015. It was developed by the same Arrowhead Studios as the sequel. The original game has always been popular. But fans of the series never thought that the sequel would take the world by storm the way it did.
