Will All Final Fantasy VII Remakes Be Sony-Exclusive On Consoles?!

There are several indications that the third and final remake of Final Fantasy VII will be released exclusively for PlayStation consoles. The PC release will take place a little later.

Barely a week has passed since the release of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and the companies involved are already talking openly about the third part and the future of the sub-series. A lot of information is not out yet. However, it’s possible that this third instalment will debut in 2028 if all goes according to Square Enix’s plans. This is still not certain, as we still have a long way to go, but what has been strongly hinted at recently is exclusivity.

It was Christian Svensson, vice president of strategic initiatives and second and third-party content projects at SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment), who confirmed in an interview with The Washington Post that Sony had secured “the Final Fantasy VII trilogy as a console exclusive.”

A company official calls this a “PlayStation result”. They are indicating that the exclusivity agreement between Sony and Square Enix has been extended.

All indications are that neither FF7 Remake nor Rebirth will be released on Xbox consoles. At least not in the short or medium term. It’s important to note that FF7 Rebirth’s PS5 exclusivity will be much shorter. It ends three months after its release, which means that we will be able to see this title on PC from May 29, 2024. But this should be confirmed by Square Enix soon. At least Final Fantasy XVI can be released on PC. At the time, the company confirmed that they were taking the time to optimize the game for PC properly.

However, it is important to note that the article’s author later corrected his comment. “The entire FFVII trilogy is NOT yet confirmed to be Sony exclusive. The article has been amended to only mention Remake and Rebirth,” writes Gene Park on his X/Twitter account.
