STEAM DECK NEWS – About a third of these can be run on Valve’s handheld PCs without any modifications and in great condition out of the box.
According to SteamDB there are now 14023 games supported on the Steam Deck. 4607 of them are rated Verified by Valve, so you don’t have to do anything, just download and play them, they all run fine out of the box. 9416 games are rated Playable, which means you have to do something to make them work.
The other two categories are Unsupported, meaning they are not playable on Steam Deck (e.g. due to Denuvo DRM), or Unknown, meaning they have not yet been verified by Gabe Newell’s company. They plan to check the entire Steam catalog, but by the time they are done, the new handheld PC may be out (since it has already been announced that there will be a new model later). If you log into your Steam account, there’s a page dedicated to Steam Deck support, and you can check which titles in your library have been reviewed and which ones the company hasn’t gotten to yet.
In order to receive a Verified rating, a game must meet four criteria. The first is input: the game must have full controller support, use appropriate input icons, and automatically bring the keyboard to the screen when needed. The second category is display: the game must support the default resolution of the Steam Deck (1280×800 or 1280×720), have good default settings, and have good text readability.
The third category is seamlessness: the game should not show any support warnings, and if it can be started with a launcher (Call of Duty: Warzone has a launcher, for example), it should be controllable with a controller. The fourth category is system support. If the game runs on Proton, the game and all its middleware software must be supported by Proton, including anti-cheat technology.
The problem is that last year alone 14535 games were released and this year we are already over 3100.
