Nightingale: Despite The Devs’ Disappointment, No Word On When The Offline Mode Drops!

According to Inflexion Games, the team is currently working on plans for the next phase of the neo-Victorian-era game, but there are still a few things that need to be clarified about Nightingale’s expansion.

Three weeks ago, on February 20th, Nightingale was released into Early Access, but (in what has become a sad trend) this game also ran into server problems. The situation was exacerbated by the constant need for an internet connection, even when playing solo. Steam ratings quickly dropped to the Mixed category, and the number of concurrent players began to dwindle (with thousands still playing Inflexion’s game). The team is not giving up, and studio head Aaryn Flynn spoke about it, admitting that they are certainly not happy with the state of the game, but they will not give up and will fix Nightingale:

“We’ve spent a lot of time reading your impressions online, going through Discord, watching your streams, and building our plans for the next phase of the game, that being said, there are some things we’re not happy with about the game, whether it’s network disconnects, some missing quality of life improvements we want to get done, or other things in the game that are missing or not quite where we want them to be. We’re working hard right now to address those things and make sure you have the best playable experience possible. On that front, we have a patch coming out that will address one of our biggest concerns, which is network disconnects. Really exciting to get that done for you,” Flynn said.

According to Mariibel Diaz, the studio’s community coordinator, the next few weeks will be spent fine-tuning the current game experience. Fixing bugs, investigating the game’s crashes and network issues, rebalancing, and closing exploits – that’s what Inflexion Games will be spending its time on. In the coming months, they’ll be improving creature AI, adding more NPC features and weapons, modifying the building systems, and adding an offline mode.

Systems that have made the best weapons and equipment available to some players in ways that have no place in the current version of Nightingale will be removed in an update. In the meantime, Community Manager Steph Herman has asked that they not be used publicly and that players be mindful of them.

“We’re also looking at quality of life updates that don’t require a long turnaround time, but will have a big impact on players. These include things like quick sorting in storage, crafting from storage, crafting queues, and being able to buy items from your guide after you’ve met the essence merchants. Offline mode falls into the medium term category because it requires a lot of work. For example, the game load is currently split between the servers and your PC. So we have to see how the machines will handle doing the work of both. We’re very early in this work and we can’t commit to timelines, but you know we’re working on it,” Diaz said.
