The remastered versions of the two original Star Wars: Battlefront games came out in terrible shape (even on the PlayStation 5, it’s prone to graphical glitches), and Aspyr is handling it all rather strangely.
On Steam, the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection received an Overwhelmingly Negative rating, the worst rating from users. Hours after its release, it was called a disaster by the public, while a month ago Aspyr showed the opposite with the remaster of the first three episodes of Tomb Raider. Those were good, and the two Battlefront modernizations were… well, let’s just say sub-par. The video, embedded from Twitter, shows an interesting “Lego” graphical glitch in the PlayStation 5 version…
Aspyr released a statement thanking the Battlefront community for their tremendous support and feedback, and then admitted that their network infrastructure has critical bugs that cause high ping, matchmaking errors, and crashes, and that’s why servers don’t show up on the list. These don’t have much to do with what players are generally criticizing, but if they are servers, it would seem that they have launched THREE dedicated servers where 64 people can play together. Yes, but for 10,000 concurrent players that’s a pittance, and there are probably more than that, you just don’t see them…
Then Aspyr says they are working on fixing the bugs to make the network more stable, and they will continue to work until their network infrastructure is more stable to prevent further outages. There is not a hint of an apology, and certainly no explanation as to why two games released in the mid-2000s (which originally totaled about 12 gigabytes) take up 62.87 GB? The public also complains about sound glitches and poor controller support, but Aspyr has not said a word about this.
It seems that Aspyr rushed the collection this time. Such amateurish mistakes shouldn’t happen, but still, to see the state of the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection…
