Are Helldivers 2 Sales Exceeding Expectations?

According to a market analyst, the game from Stockholm-based Arrowhead Game Studio is selling well week after week, so it is not the case that sales are good only during the initial momentum, but the opposite is true.

Helldivers 2 is a good example of how it is possible to create a game with a live service model that is well received and not a kind of forced unnecessary burden. An example of the latter might be Rocksteady’s long-in-development and delayed Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, whose publisher, Warner Bros. Discovery, is already trying a 40% markdown due to lack of interest in Suicide Squad…

Doug Creutz, an analyst at TD Cowen, wrote this week that Helldivers 2 has already sold more than 8 million copies since its release in February, and he says that number is growing every week. He believes that Arrowhead Game Studio’s game, in which a well-timed hug can help (for example, using a shield backpack to hug a buddy also protects him from an explosion!

Sony has yet to release official sales figures for the cooperative shooter, but according to SteamDB, Helldivers 2 often has over 430,000 concurrent players. In the UK, it was named the best-selling game of February according to GSD data, and since its release on February 8, the Sony-published title has seen sales increase each week. PlayStation 5 accounted for 57% of sales in the country, with PC making up the remaining 43%.

Helldivers 2 has been a runaway success, and it’s no wonder that rumors have surfaced that Arrowhead Game Studio could become part of PlayStation Studios, meaning Sony could acquire the team. The studio has since refuted these rumors. Recently, Housemarque followed a similar path with the release of Returnal, and the Finnish team was later owned by Sony…
