The director of Baldur’s Gate 3 posted an interesting poll, followed by a cryptic image that hints at an unexpected crossover with another game…
If Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke is anything to go by, the award-winning RPG may soon be getting some sort of crossover. Even with Vampire Survivors! Given that both games are rooted in fantasy, a crossover between the two would make sense.
Baldur’s Gate 3 and Vampire Survivors are two successful games of their kind: while the former is a AAA title that won multiple Game of the Year awards last year, the latter is an indie game that has achieved much more success than we initially thought.
In a recent tweet, Larian boss Swen Vincke teased a possible reunion of two popular games, BG3 and Vampire Survivors. He posted a poll on Twitter asking if the two games should work together. The only two options were “Yes” and “F— yes”. This suggests that the outcome of the vote is irrelevant to the actual decision, which appears to have already been made.
At the time of writing, more than 19,000 votes had already been received, with 51.2% of users choosing the “F— yes” option.
In the comment section of the vote, Vincke also shared a mysterious picture. This one features him and the mastermind behind Vampire Survivors, Luca Galante. After that, the post was flooded with excited fans of both games. Some fans have expressed their desire to see Baldur’s Gate 3’s famous character, Asterion, in Vampire Survivors. Another user wrote: “I would kill to play as Peppino in BG3”.
A Baldur’s Gate 3 / Vampire Survivors crossover could be mutually beneficial for both parties
BG3 is still quite popular, averaging over 90,000 concurrent players on Steam for the past month. But this is the first time that this statistic has dipped below six figures since the game’s release. On the other hand, the numbers of Vampire Survivors have also stagnated in the past year. Having last surpassed 10,000 average concurrent players in April 2023.
Obviously, each game could use some new content to increase player engagement, and this year seems perfect for bringing in new players for some reason.
For Larian Studios, the supposed crossover could rejuvenate the BG3 community ahead of the game’s physical release in the first quarter of 2024. Likewise, the crossover would also benefit Vampire Survivors developer Poncle to attract more fans as work continues on the animated TV series adaptation of its game originally announced last year.
