MOVIE NEWS – The action-comedy called The Stuntman promises to be one of the big hits of the year, and it already has a world record attached to it.
The main character of the film, Ryan Gosling, and the director, David Leitch, in Los Angeles, after the screening of the film, ceremoniously presented the certificate confirming the Guinness record to stuntman Logan Holladay, after he performed an 8 and a half swing death spin in the film. During the stunt, called a cannon roll in American stunt parlance, a cannon-like structure installed vertically in the body fires a shot in the direction of the ground, the backlash propels the vehicle several meters high, and the car spins several times in the air around its axis. Before Holladay, no one had managed to spin eight and a half times before the vehicle touched the ground for good.
The stunt was performed on the beach near Sydney in 2022. By the way, the world record for spinning seven times was held by Adam Kirley, who undertook the neck-breaking stunt in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale.
The Stuntman is based on the motifs of a hugely successful eighties series, and Leitch’s (John Wick, Killing Flight, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde) avowed aim was to entertain the audience also pay tribute to the stunt profession. In the film, they therefore tried to use real stunts instead of computer tricks wherever possible. “I was a stuntman myself, so I wanted to bring back the most beautiful tricks of my profession, which are now slowly dying out,” explains the director. – The death spin is such a classic stunt, and we couldn’t have done without it in this film. And if we already pay tribute to the stunt profession, we couldn’t be satisfied with an ordinary death spin, we had to set a record. Logan performed the task flawlessly, proving why we consider him one of the best stuntmen working today.”
Gosling plays a stuntman named Colt Seavers, whose ex-girlfriend Jody (Emily Blunt) is directing his first film. Events take an unexpected turn when the main character of the production, Tom (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), whose stuntman Colt has been working with for years, disappears. Colt must find Tom in the midst of frantic chases and deafening explosions to save the movie, and he and Jody may even become close again…
