Stellar Blade: Developers Tell From Where They Draw Inspiration For The Game

It would be an exaggeration to say that Bayonetta and Nier were copied slavishly. But without them, “Stellar Blade would never have been released.”

Inspiration is extremely important in the video game industry. Titles that even define genres have been created throughout history. In the case of Stellar Blade, it’s evident that many gamers automatically think of NieR: Automata or Bayonetta when they see it. However, we have to talk about the inspiration of both when it comes to creating the PS5-exclusive game that will be released on April 22, 2024.

Both Stellar Blade director Hyung-Tae Kiml and the game’s technical director Dong-Gi Lee said how important NieR: Automata and Bayonetta were inspirations.

When asked about the former title, a member of Shift Up said that “NieR was the inspiration for the >>birth<< of Stellar Blade.” He went on to explain. “Not just some parts, but the whole game. However, I’m not the same person as Yoko Taro, so there are many other differences between us, from the story we want to tell, to the visual effects and the presentation of the fights.”

It seems more than obvious that Stellar Blade will differ from NieR Automata in many ways, despite the evident inspiration.

Regarding Bayonetta, however, one of the developers said, “I really liked Bayonetta, but the gameplay is a little different. We want our games to flow as a whole; we don’t want the experience to be disjointed. So it’s a game where it’s important to experience to finish everything,” he said. Finally, they say that “they also try to make it fun to play again.”

Stellar Blade demo is coming soon (again…)

All PS5 players will soon be able to try out Stellar Blade when the demo hits the PlayStation Store on March 29, which is tomorrow. The developers hint that there will be a little surprise for players who complete the first stage of the demo. Plus, players who complete the demo can carry over their save data to the full game release on April 26! They can continue the game from the last checkpoint. The demo allows players to try out the skill tree, change gear, change Eve’s different costumes, and learn the basics of combat with an in-game tutorial.
