MOVIE NEWS – Danny DeVito once again suggested that he should return to the world of Batman and bring his old pal Arnie with him.
Danny DeVito would do anything to reprise his role as Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, from Batman Returns. In fact, he wouldn’t mind teaming up with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze to take on Michael Keaton’s Batman.
After their hilarious Academy Awards performance last month, there was endless talk that any of the three actors could reprise their former comic book roles. DeVito’s semi-funny comments were just the latest.
Tim Burton’s Batman movies have always been the most iconic film versions of the Dark Knight. But Batman and Robin, which featured Schwarzenegger’s ice-cold villain, is at the other end of the scale in terms of Batman’s popularity. However, Schwarzenegger has an infinite number of fans, enough to make everyone forget the faults of this particular entry in the Batman saga for his sake.
Speaking to PEOPLE, DeVito once again cheekily teased that he might be stepping back into the world of Batman. Of course, this is unlikely for several reasons. (Not least because Penguin died at the end of Batman Returns…) When asked if he might appear with Arnie’s Mr. Freeze on the big screen, DeVito said:
“Oh, I don’t know. I don’t think it’s a bad idea because you got Keaton, you got [Schwarzenegger], you got DeVito. We could do those same parts. Yeah, why not? Go tell [co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros] Pam Abdi to do that. And [MGM chairman] Mike DeLuca.”
Of course, there is more to DeVito’s words than a bit of hilarity, as the production would undoubtedly be a massive hit with audiences, if only because of the actors.
But there’s probably a better chance of George Clooney landing the role of Batman in The Brave and the Bold than of these three classic franchise stars appearing together in a Batman movie…
Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger reunite on the big screen
The Batman dreams may just be dreams. But there is nothing so forced that DeVito and Schwarzenegger finally want to shoot a movie together again after many years of trying. After starring in Gemini and Junior together, as well as numerous other TV and guest appearances alongside each other, a few years ago, it looked like their 1988 hit Gemini would be getting a belated sequel titled Triplets.
However, due to the delays caused by the COVID-19 epidemic and the death of director Ivan Reitman (who should have returned to direct the sequel), the film became just another “what could have been”.
However, since their appearance together at this year’s Oscars, DeVito has already given a taste of their new project, which he says will be completed soon. It is said that they have been working together in a joint cinema for quite some time. However, none of the stars were willing to reveal more so far…
