According to the CEO of Shift Up, who also worked on Stellar Balde, the studio plans to make more single-player games in the future and will not open up to other markets.
Sci-fi hack-and-slash game Stellar Blade is coming out on the 26th of this month. Many fans are eagerly waiting for the PS5-exclusive game. The demo is now available to download, so you can see if Shift Up’s approach grabs you. However, this industry is moving fast, and gamers are constantly wondering what the future holds for this IP, studio, and other related aspects.
In an industry where rising development costs are challenging AAA single-player games, Shift Up’s CEO spoke out on the matter.
Hyung-Tae Kim gave an interview to Korean media Ruliweb. Despite the challenge, he reiterated that the studio wants to continue making single-player games. “Sales success has become a major problem in recent years due to rising development costs,” he admitted.
Shift Up is ready to open up to other genres that bring more revenue commercially. However, Kim wants to focus on more single-player games. “To be honest, I often hear advice from those around me that making games with a higher profit margin would be better. But what our industry needs most is variety,” he says. “Single-player games with endings have a significant value in themselves. It’s healthier to have a market that continues to make these types of games that coexist with other genres and platforms,” he says.
What is the next game from the creators of Stellar Blade?
According to the director of Stellar Blade, Shift Up will continue to take on the challenge of console games in the future. “We have a great desire to continue creating games that allow many players to enjoy the game to the end and come back to reality with a good feeling”. Regarding his next game, the director of SB did not hide that he wanted to make a sequel to the sci-fi hack-and-slash RPG. A few days ago, it was revealed that the next game from the game’s creators will not be exclusive to PS5. After all, on the official website, they presented a multi-platform, i.e. PC, mobile and console project.
