The Sequel to Gladiator Atones for the “Sin” of the First Part

MOVIE NEWS – Gladiator was the first real big hit of the new millennium, the audience loved and won 5 Oscars. However, among the great cheers, there were also shrill voices, whose owners demanded historical fidelity in the production.

The sequel, which will be shown in the fall, will smooth out the problem, because according to the news, the new story will be better adapted to the events that happened, and several historical figures will play an important role in it. The details of the plot are still shrouded in darkness, but it is already known that Emperor Caracalla will be the main villain, Joseph Quinn forms, and ancient Rome appears next to the ruler also the scheming figures of his public life. Caracalla seems like a very good choice, because he was one of the most evil rulers of the ancient empire, with countless evil deeds committed both professionally and personally, until finally – beware, spoiler! – he was killed by his own enraged soldiers. So the creators of the film did not have to distance themselves from historical reality, since Caracalla really committed those horrors that the audience expects from a good villain.

Despite the above, ScreenRant is somewhat skeptical about Ridley Scott’s new opus, because the director is not known for sticking to historical facts to the hilt. It could also be said that he considers drama more important than stark reality, since that is why people go to the cinema. Scott most recently published Napoleon because of that, he ended up on the bench of bad students, but he cut his teeth like a hussar. When they told him that the Battle of Austerlitz did not take place the way he portrays it in his film, he retorted: why, were you there?
