Bethesda Game Studios’ (BGS) major DLC for its game, released last September, is still a long way off, and hopefully it won’t do the same thing as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition or the next-gen update for Fallout 4.
But that’s a long way off, so no worries about mods being ruined by the DLC (Fallout 4’s update has more problems than that: it’s not really free on PlayStation, and one of the graphics modes doesn’t work on Xbox). Todd Howard, the legendary BGS developer, was interviewed by Kinda Funny Games, and he started by talking about Shattered Space being preceded by an update that will benefit shipbuilders, as their game is getting a major expansion in that area that will be announced this week.
Howard confirmed that this update is separate from Shattered Space, which he said will be released sometime in the fall. So there will be at least a year between the base game and the DLC. So it’s a bit strange that he didn’t say when Shattered Space will be coming to Xbox Series and PC. BGS has been fixing bugs and adjusting gameplay since September, but hasn’t touched Starfield in terms of content, which will include new story elements, equipment and locations in Shattered Space.
He also talked about the Starfield Creation Kit. This will cover a lot of mod support and some content creators already have access to it, while the rest of us will have to wait a little longer: “I don’t have a date to announce when the full release is coming. This is really, really important to us. Our modders out there are incredible. And a lot of them, I think before the Creation Club, and now with our new Creators Program, I think one of the great things is we get to see them kind of ‘go pro’ and go from hobby to professional. We’ve hired some of them into the studio, but more so the ones that are out there who are like, hey, I can make a living now making stuff that’s really, really good content, I think those people deserve the attention and the praise for what they’re doing in our games,” Howard said.
Fall is still a long way off…
