A New Batman: Arkham Game in the Works, but Not What we Expected! [VIDEO]

The Batman: Arkham games have been mostly of impeccable quality for all but the last nine years (with perhaps one exception), but compared to that, this announcement is a bit of a surprise.

The new game that was announced is Batman: Arkham Shadow. It’s going to be on Meta Quest 3, so instead of the PlayStation 5, Xbox series, PC trio, think virtual reality. The game is a joint venture between Oculus Studios and Camouflaj, so it has nothing to do with Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham Asylum; Batman: Arkham City; Batman: Arkham Knight) or WB Games Montreal (Batman: Arkham Origins). Camouflaj is known for Marvel’s Iron Man VR (coming to PlayStation VR in 2020, then PC in 2022), and before that they created République.

Along with the announcement video, they wrote: “Gotham City is in danger. And you’re the only one who can save it,” and that’s it. More information will be revealed during the Summer Game Fest 2024 Showcase on June 7th, so we’ll have to wait another month to find out more about Batman: Arkham Shadow. The problem is, this isn’t the first example of Batman: Arkham trying its hand at virtual reality. In 2016, Rocksteady released Batman: Arkham VR for PlayStation VR, followed by PC a year later.

Ryan Payton, founder of Camouflaj, had this to say about their game on their website: “After years of working in secrecy, Camouflaj is proud to announce its next game, Batman: Arkham Shadow. Working closely with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC, we aim to deliver an authentic new entry in the acclaimed Arkham franchise, which as the millions of fans of the series will know is no easy feat. The prospect of adding a new chapter to such a storied franchise is exciting. (And a lot of fun.) We’re committed to building on the beloved foundation laid by the legendary team at Rocksteady, and we’re driven to do it justice. From the beginning, Batman: Arkham Shadow has been designed to be the ultimate VR game, taking full advantage of Meta Quest 3. Drawing on our eight years of dedicated VR game development has allowed us to not only create a game that feels distinctly Arkham, but to do so in a way that takes advantage of the immersive magic that only VR can provide.”

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
