Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a Good Start, but Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Loses Momentum

Circana, formerly known as the NPD Group, has released its March data for the North American region, and there are some surprising results in the data set…

Gamers spent $4.9 billion (+4% year-over-year; mostly driven by mobile and software sales; hardware sales down 31%!) The PlayStation 5 also came out on top in terms of both units sold and money spent. The Nintendo Switch came in second in terms of sales and the Xbox series came in second in terms of money generated.

There are several newcomers to the top games list (Dragon’s Dogma 2 in first, MLB The Show 24 in third, Rise of the Ronin in fifth, Princess Peach Showtime! in sixth, Unicorn Overord in eighth and WWE 2K24 in ninth) and a big drop for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which fell from second to seventh. According to Circana, if you take all the games of the IP into account, it’s now 14th on the list in terms of sales, but this confirms that it’s not really selling that well.
