Is Sony Recruiting New In-House Team From Recently Closed Studio Developers?!

A former developer of the Deviation Games studio, which was closed in March of this year, said on LinkedIn that several of the team’s employees “setup their own studio at Sony.”

In the video game industry, development teams are often closed, while new studios always form. This was the fate of Deviation Games, a studio made up of Call of Duty veterans such as Jason Blundell, this March. As their first project, they wanted to launch a live service title in cooperation with PlayStation. The project may have been cancelled, but it seems that several developers from this team have created another one within Sony’s ranks.

This information came to light thanks to Michael Anthony, a former employee of Deviation Games, who wrote about the new studio’s founding on his LinkedIn profile.

“Hey, I hear that a lot of previous Deviation Games employees have setup their own studio at Sony working on an undisclosed new IP,” he explains. While confirmation from Sony is still awaited, all signs point to this being a new PlayStation Studios studio or at least a new collaboration.

Anthony goes on to mention that his former team are top-notch developers. “All the people I see working there that have signed up are top-class developers and hope that you can create a top-class new IP with your studio that hopefully gives you all the time you need to create a quality product and not have to deal with red tape from previous projects” – he explains (via VGC).

Sony Might Create Even More PlayStation Studios!

Jason Blundell is known to have left Deviation Games in September 2022. However, all indications are that the Treyarch veteran will be involved in the new studio. Former Deviation Games developer JC Farmer said on X/Twitter last December: “I’ve been wanting to say this for a while, but now I finally can! I’m a Junior Game Designer at PlayStation Studios. And I work for Jason Blundell.”

The former Activision employee was very important to the Call of Duty franchise, as he was responsible for running the zombie mode for some of the Black Ops titles, playing a pivotal role in its development and evolution.

Deviation Games closed a few months ago. However, it seems that a new studio was born with quite a few team members. We will keep an eye out for further news in the future. The many layoffs and studio closings shook everyone. It’s good to hear that life hasn’t stopped in the gaming industry.
