Will Sly Cooper Return? Don't get Your Hopes up! [VIDEO]

The studio that developed the first few games has been busy working on the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, so the raccoon’s sneaking and thieving will most likely continue to be neglected.

The latest installment in the franchise has been out for eleven years now, with Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time coming to PlayStation 3 in 2013, developed not by Sucker Punch (who created the first three installments and then the InFamous titles), but by Sanzaru Games. They’ve been working with VR lately, with Asgard’s Wrath coming to Oculus Rift in 2019 and the sequel coming to Meta Quest 3 in 2023, and before that they helped develop the Spyro Reignited trilogy for Toys for Bob on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Sly has since made guest appearances in PlayStation Move Heroes and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. PlayStation acknowledged the raccoon’s 20th anniversary in 2022 by releasing related commemorative merchandise, but Sucker Punch didn’t care. In the Game Mess broadcast embedded below, Jeff Grubb talked about how the studio is developing a sequel to Sly Cooper in addition to Ghost of Tsushima 2.

However, Jason Schreier, writing for Bloomberg, refuted this, saying that these rumors have no basis in truth, as Sucker Punch only works on one title at a time. The reason Ghost of Tsushima 2 hasn’t been released yet is that not only has the development budget ballooned, but the development time has also increased and now takes 5-7 years. Schreier added that Sucker Punch is a smaller team compared to other AAA studios.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will be released for PC later this week, and Sony is being so stubborn about it that it will not be available for purchase in 200 countries and territories, as you still need a PlayStation Network account to play even single-player. But maybe Sucker Punch will return to Sly. After all, Insomniac Games is also returning to Ratchet and Clank in 2021 with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
