MOVIE NEWS – Jason Statham teams up with Plane director Jean-François Richet in Mutiny, a tale of revenge and conspiracy.
Action superstar Jason Statham teams up with last year’s Plane director Jean-François Richet in Mutiny, in which the Beekeeper star goes on the run while uncovering a massive global conspiracy. Without a doubt, by blowing as many people as possible in the process. Mutiny comes courtesy of Lionsgate, which has already acquired North American distribution rights ahead of the Cannes market.
According to Deadline, the studio bought the rights for an eight-figure sum, J.P., who also wrote Mutiny and Plane. Written by Davis and Lindsay Michel.
In addition to starring, Statham will also produce the project through his new company, Punch Palace Productions. With Marc Butan and MadRiver Pictures. Here’s the synopsis for Mutiny:
“In Mutiny, after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime—leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy.”
The action thriller will start filming in the UK this September. Lauren Bixby, vice president of co-production and acquisitions at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, is excited to see Statham and the Plane director work together for the first time.
“Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world and we look forward to teaming him up with Jean-François and the MadRiver team who we previously worked with on Plane. We can’t wait to see that creative energy once again as we bring Mutiny to life.”
Jason Statham was a huge success with this year’s movie The Beekeeper
Jason Statham recently had a massive hit with The Beekeeper, where the action star moves on familiar ground. He plays a man who, after losing a dear friend to a scam, leaves his quiet beekeeping behind and embarks on a brutal campaign of revenge. Directed by David Ayer based on a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer, the film stars Jason Statham and stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashaddal and Jeremy Irons.
Released in January, The Beekeeper was a huge success for both Statham and Ayer, and the action film has now become Statham’s biggest solo film at the worldwide box office.
The revenge film brought in $152.7 million at the box office. It was also well received by critics: it received a score of 70% from critics and 92% from viewers on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
