The Helldivers 2 leak has revealed the next faction that has already been hinted at in other rumours…

A reliable Helldivers 2 leaker has given fans a closer look at the highly anticipated new enemy faction, the Illuminate. Rumours of the upcoming alien race have been circulating in the gaming community for quite some time now. Several claims have warned of a threat fast approaching Super Earth territory.

In addition, the developers have been tight-lipped about the existence of the Illuminate, but the newly discovered tools have hinted that the alien species may arrive sooner rather than later.

For context, the Illuminate was one of the main factions of the original Helldivers. A kind of highly developed civilization of hundreds of thousands of years. However, they were conspicuously absent when Helldivers 2 was released, leaving many fans speculating about their fate. Although Super Earth’s Ministry of Justice stated that humanity had since exterminated all members of the Illuminate, players doubted the claim. It was suspected that the survivors were merely retreating and biding their time before making a triumphant return to the front lines of the galactic war.

Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt also hinted at the return of the Illuminate and even shared several posts on social media hinting at the return of the dreaded enemy in Helldivers 2.

If recent leaks are to be believed, players were rightfully suspicious. A recent post by noted game leaker IronS1ghts on the Helldivers Leaks subreddit gave users a closer look at a member of the Illuminate. The pictured alien has a unique design compared to H2’s Automatons and Terminids. However, it still shares the glowing eyes from the original Helldivers. Meanwhile, it leans even more towards the aquatic origin of the species, as can be inferred from its large, squid-like head and tentacled jaws.

Other Helldivers 2 Illuminate leaks

This wasn’t the only Illuminate rumour circulating in the Helldivers 2 community recently. IronS1ghts has shared this and that about the next enemy faction in several previous posts. These were primarily images of leaked Illuminate tools and textures allegedly obtained from the game’s files. Additionally, some players have claimed to see blue laser beams shooting across the sky during the game, which they believe may have come from one of the Illuminate’s ships or weapons.

It is unknown when and how the Illuminate intends to deal with the Super Earth or how their previous defeat has forced them to change their army and tactics.

Either way, dedicated players will likely welcome the opportunity to showcase some of Helldivers 2’s more devastating strategies in their fight to spread a controlled democracy across the galaxy.
