Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: Will it be Cross-Gen?

In the previous console generation switch, Call of Duty was released on older hardware two years after the new consoles were released, but here we are four years after the start of the current generation and we’re still getting a cross-gen title…

In 2015, interestingly enough, it was also for a Black Ops episode (Black Ops III) that Call of Duty was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 alongside the then new consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, released in 2013, and then the 2016 episode Advanced Warfare skipped the PS3 and X360. So for two more years, both console generations got new episodes of Activision Blizzard’s cash cow series.

A few days ago, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was announced, so it doesn’t have a subtitle (we’ve been calling it Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War), and it’s not only coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC, but according to Tom Henderson, it’s also coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as GameStop, one of the major video game chains in the US, has listed the PS4 version. Not the Xbox One, as according to several sources, the image in Charlie Intel’s tweet is authentic, so the Xbox series version will be cross-gen, meaning it will be playable on the older Microsoft machines.

There are already rumors about the release date. According to The Verge, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released at the end of October 2024, and according to Insider Gaming, it will be released on October 25, 2024, because if it was released on the 18th, it would still be mid-October, so there is no other option (after October 25, the next Friday would be November 1st).

All this is not yet official, but the name of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is. Microsoft is expected to say more about the game after the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, but this has not yet been confirmed.
