MOVIE NEWS – Audiences often benefit when horror is combined with humor and the rules of the genre are turned inside out, and the Scream series is a prime example of this. Writer-director Christopher Landon has already proven that this trait suits him well: in Freaky, a high school senior switches bodies with a serial killer and has 24 hours to resolve the situation or it will stay that way.
Landon’s next film, Drop, is based on a similarly bold twist. A widowed mother (Meghann Fahy) goes on a date for the first time in years, and during dinner, threatening messages start arriving on her phone. It is not known who the mysterious harasser is – it could even be the nice young man (Brandon Sklenar) sitting across the table.
Drop is being produced by Blumhouse, a horror studio that Landon has worked with for a long time, having been the lead writer on the Paranormal series. Among other successes, he has also directed Happy Death Day! and There’s a Ghost in Our House.
(Drop – domestic release: April 10, 2025.)
