Dragon’s Dogma 2 Hit a Sales Milestone

Sales for the game released this spring aren’t bad, as Dragon’s Dogma 2 has already reached a major milestone, so it’s no wonder that Capcom might already be working on DLC (the first one had one, titled Dark Arisen).

Yesterday morning, Capcom announced on Twitter that Dragon’s Dogma 2 has now sold more than 3 million units on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. The last time we heard about the game’s results was in early April, almost two months earlier, when the Japanese publisher said it was at 2.5 million. So Capcom has added half a million to that number, but since it’s not a mainstream franchise, it’s understandable that it slowed down a bit after the initial momentum.

Circana, formerly the NPD Group, which covers the North American market, claims that it outperformed all games in the region in March. The bestselling title of the franchise so far is Dragon’s Dogma 2 (no surprise, as the growing gaming industry means that all franchises achieve this), and with such good results for Itsuno Hideaki’s game (he’s probably working on Devil May Cry 6 now…), Capcom has revised its revenue forecast upwards.

“In our core digital content business, in addition to Street Fighter 6, the latest title in the Street Fighter series, which was well received worldwide, Dragons Dogma 2 was released in the fourth quarter and performed well. In addition, sales of catalog titles, which consist mainly of previous titles in major series, increased due to their continued popularity. Overall, this has led us to expect earnings for this business to exceed our plan,” Capcom wrote.

So Capcom is happy because Dragon’s Dogma 2 sold so well, which the company didn’t expect, and so it might even reach the 5 million sales this year. Maybe it will do even better in the rest of 2024.
