Everstone Studios’ game, Where Winds Meet, has been in development for quite some time, without a release window, but it promises a lot, and it’s not just on PC anymore…
There has already been much talk about PlayStation’s expansion into PC gaming. However, the Japanese company’s interest in sponsoring the Asian Games is sometimes forgotten. This was already proven with Stellar Blade, which was a temporary PS5 exclusive until told otherwise. This will also be the case with Where Winds Meet. The open-world wuxia developed by the Chinese Everstone Studios team is another one of the Japanese-sponsored games.
With this support, we also received an extremely positive confirmation: the RPG will not stay only on PC and will also come to Sony’s current generation.
The Everstone Studios development surfaced on social media. The action fantasy made headlines with its open-world madness back in 2022. Since then, the development has hardly appeared at events. Only small gameplay glimpses and details were given about its story or the concept of the gameplay, which will be single-player but will also include multiplayer elements.
However, Everstone Studios claimed that due to the lack of experience in the market and the inability to find a publisher in the early stages of development, the RPG would only come to PC. To the surprise of many, this now took a strange turn. It will be released simultaneously for PC and PS5, assuming PlayStation console exclusivity.
Unfortunately, there is no confirmed release date or release window. So, staying strictly with what we saw today, it is inevitable that those who want a wuxia madness, i.e. a martial arts action adventure, can have Where Winds Meet as their subsequent work.
What else do we know about Where Winds Meet?
In Where Winds Meet, players take on the role of a “hero forged in chaos”. Walk the path of chivalry in a world ruled by sword and blood. Combat is a critical part of an RPG. Wuxia skills such as Ch’ing Kung (wall walking, running into water, climbing) and the lion’s roar are crucial in stunning the enemy. (Those who have seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for example, know more or less what to expect.)
Players can use Tai Chi skills to parry enemy attacks or define their fighting style to write their own chapter in the purely fantastical story.
As for the details we don’t know, of which there are many, the Chinese team mentioned that there will be a free build system with 600 authentic components. As well as a role-playing system in which we can decide what impact we have on the world. Along with multiplayer, little is known about these mechanics and gameplay elements. So until we get closer to the end of development, we won’t be able to fully judge what kind of project the game will be as a whole.
