The Last Of Us Season 2: We’ll Get Fewer Episodes, But Still Have Reason To Rejoice?!

MOVIE NEWS – An interview with Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman revealed the first details about the new episodes of HBO and Naughty Dog’s series The Last of Us 2nd season.

It’s been over a year since The Last of Us ended its first season. The HBO series based on the Naughty Dog saga was an undivided success. That’s why viewers are really looking forward to the sequel. Fortunately, today, we can provide you with fresh news on this front. In fact, doubts about the release date have not yet been resolved. However, showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have revealed some essential details about the series’ future. Now we know, for example, that we have many more episodes than we expected.

It has been revealed how many episodes the new season of The Last of Us will have

In an interview with Deadline, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin confirmed that the second season of The Last of Us series will consist of a total of seven episodes. This is potentially disappointing news, as the number of episodes is lower than the debut season. However, the problem is not what you think.

It’s not that they wanted to cut from the content to tell the story faster, but on the contrary: since it was not possible to tell the story in a few episodes, it was better to give the plot the necessary detail and divide it into two seasons.

“The story material that we got from Part II of the game is way more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do from the start was figure out how to tell that story across seasons. When you do that, you look for natural breakpoints, and as we laid it out, this season, the national breakpoint felt like it came after seven episodes. (…) We just want to put people’s minds at ease that the idea that this season coming up is a little bit shorter than the first one is not because we’re taking less time to tell the stories, it’s because we want to take more time,” explained the creators of the series.

The creators of the series have already announced that the goal is to extend the series by four seasons. That seems almost inevitable now. “One thing is absolutely for sure, I don’t see how we could tell the story that remains after Season 2 is complete in one more season,” said Mazin. Moreover, he strongly emphasized this idea during the interview: “We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time and go down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too,” Mazin said. “We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that — as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television — Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4,” – they also said.

Why can’t TLoU Part 2 fit into one season?

Without going into the plot, The Last of Us: Part 2 introduces several secondary characters whose stories could be explored throughout the series. Moreover, highlighting them would be particularly important in faithfully conveying the message that the game originally wanted to convey.

By the way, another thing that was revealed about the 2nd season of the series is that the episodes will be pretty long. Specifically, there will be one that the showrunners, without going into detail about its length, have defined as “very long.”

The big mystery still waiting to be solved about TLoU season 2 is the premiere date. It looks like it will take at least a few months to find out. Likely, the days of significant series releasing a season every year are long gone. This is all the more so since HBO’s ambitious project faced problems such as the Hollywood actors’ and screenwriters’ strike.
