Clockwork Revolution: The Devs Have Responded to a Rumor in a Funny Way!

InXile Entertainment has debunked a rumor about their next game, but not in the typical way, instead using a meme to counter the rumor.

On June 14, a Reddit user named KekanKok posted a long list of unannounced games that he had compiled from IMDB mentions of actors. One of them was a reference to a project called CWRKRV, which at first glance might seem like Clockwork Revolution. According to the voice actor, the Xbox-exclusive title could be released for the Xbox Series and PC sometime in 2025.

InXile responded on Twitter within a few hours, not with a simple dismissive comment, but with a screenshot from the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, in which Vanya and Five drive side by side. With the image, InXile wanted to give the impression that the leak was simply the voice actor making up a release date or period and then posting it on IMDB. Meanwhile, let’s not forget that even the developers themselves don’t know with 100% certainty when Clockwork Revolution will be ready for release.

InXile Entertainment’s meme tweet got nearly 100,000 views in one day, so it’s a very popular reaction from the studio, and if you read between the lines, the team’s statement also means that Clockwork Revolution is still a bit early in development. They usually decide on a release year when they have a playable alpha, about halfway through development. If InXile really hasn’t decided when their steampunk-style game will be released, then we won’t be able to experience the time-bending gameplay for a few years yet.

Nowadays, it usually takes five years to develop a AAA game (and not only the timeframe, but also the costs have increased significantly…), and InXile Entertainment was already working on it in 2021, so the first-person action RPG view reminiscent of Dishonored or BioShock will probably not be released until 2026.
