Can Bethesda Remake The First Fallout Games?! Todd Howard Was Asked [VIDEO]

“I think I’d like people to experience it the way it was,” said Bethesda boss Todd Howard.

Fallout is all the rage these days. The post-apocalyptic Bethesda RPG franchise is constantly being talked about, especially after the massive success of Prime Video’s Fallout series. After Amazon hit it big with this production, the controversy surrounding the games and a possible Fallout 5 resurfaced. But it’s clear that the studio has other priorities.

Nostalgic fans fondly remember the early Fallout titles, and Todd Howard was asked if there would be a remake of any of those games.

Bethesda boss and Fallout 4 director Todd Howard gave an interview to YouTuber MrMattyPlays. (See end of article.) Here, he talked about several studio and franchise topics. Among other things, about the fact that the team wants to make annual expansions for Starfield. However, he was also asked about the original Fallout and whether the studio is keen on remakes. It would be a dream come true for many gamers if these games could be released one day. However, it seems that Bethesda does not want to initiate such projects.

Regarding whether a remake of Fallout, Fallout 2 or Fallout: Tactics will be made, Howard said: “A main priority for us is to make sure they’re available and you can still play them on the PC. And making sure that they run OK. As far as beyond that, we’ve talked about it, but our priorities in terms of ‘Hey let’s go do dev work and make certain things work’, they haven’t been in those areas, so again priority is ‘can people load it up and play it?'” asked the head of the Fallout brand (excerpted by PC Gamer).

Neither Bethesda nor Todd Howard wants to remake the original Fallout games

Todd Howard explained that his priority is to make it playable: “I could argue that some of the charm of games from that era and the original Fallout is a little bit of that age. I would never want to sort of paste over some of that with, ‘Well we changed how this works so it’s more modern.’ – he pondered.

“As long as you can download it, as long as it loads up and runs, I think I’d like people to experience it the way it was,” he says.

The content creator also addresses the question of whether these Fallout games will ever make it to consoles. He gave the example of Wasteland. “Anything is possible. But that’s gonna be a longer dev throw, and you have to ask yourself is that where we wanna put our time right now… or is it best played the way it was on a PC? And if you ask me right now the best way to play it is with a mouse & keyboard on PC” – concludes the conversation.
