Is This The Real Reason Why Twitch Banned Dr Disrespect Back Then?!

TECH NEWS – Dr Disrespect was one of Twitch’s most popular streamers before he was suddenly banned in 2020 without explanation.

In 2020, Twitch suddenly banned one of its biggest stars, Herschel “Guy” Beahm, better known as Dr Disrespect, without any explanation. Four years after Beahm was permanently banned, two former Twitch employees have come forward to describe the events they believe contributed to his removal from the platform.

One former Twitch employee, who requested anonymity because of the potential risk to his career, said Beahm used Whispers, Twitch’s now-defunct messaging system. Even to exchange messages with a minor. He initiated a conversation about meeting at TwitchCon.

The employee was working on Twitch’s trust and security team at the time of the 2020 ban.

Their comments corroborate a post by Cody Conners, a former Twitch employee who worked on the company’s strategic partnerships team. Late Friday night, Conners wrote on X:

“He got banned because he got caught sexting a minor in the then-existing Twitch Whispers product. He was trying to meet up with her at TwitchCon. The powers that be could read in plain text.”

While Conners didn’t specifically name Beahm, it’s understood the streamer was the subject of the post. Beahm’s ban comes shortly after Twitch updated its sexual harassment policy. The offenders could then be punished with a permanent suspension.

Beahm denied Connors’ claims. “This has been settled, no wrongdoing was acknowledged, and they paid out the whole contract,” he posted on X. Beahm posted another post reiterating that no wrongdoing was found. “I didn’t do anything wrong, all this has been probed and settled, nothing illegal, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid,” he wrote.

Dr Disrespect never told the public what happened

The news of his suspension four years ago came as a shock to Beahm. Beahm “Dr Disrespect” was one of the most popular stars on Twitch at the time, with around 4 million followers. It was then that he signed a seven-figure, two-year exclusive contract with the platform. Neither Twitch nor Beahm said why the streamer was banned.

In an interview with The Washington Post shortly after the ban, Beahm said Twitch didn’t even tell him why his account was removed.

The former employee who spoke out now also provided further insight into the sequence of events leading to the ban. He said a significant amount of time passed between the messages between Beahm and the alleged victim being sent and the submission of a moderation report about them. He couldn’t remember how much time had passed. When Twitch received the report in 2020, it said Twitch had investigated the allegations. Beahm’s channel was eventually banned.

A year after the ban, Beahm said he is suing Twitch for monetary damages and revealed that he finally found out why the platform issued the ban. But Beahm refused to say what it was. A year later, the legal dispute was resolved. Beahm said: “I have resolved my legal dispute with Twitch. No party admits to any wrongdoing.”
