Since DICE and Electronic Arts are as reluctant as Valve (Half-Life, Team Fortress, Portal…) regarding the number 3 in Star Wars: Battlefront, we can never officially expect a third Battlefront, which has already failed twice.
The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is scandalously bad. Aspyr simply didn’t care about the two games released twenty years ago in the same way they did with the collection of the first three Tomb Raider episodes (that pack is called Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft). DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront, released in 2015, was good but lacked a single-player segment, and the sequel released in 2017, which was worked on by several studios (including ex-Ubisoft Jade Raymond’s Motive studio; she was essential to the launch of Assassin’s Creed), while it had that element, its cheeky loot boxes made it far from perfect.
Now, however, fans thought they were making Star Wars: Battlefront 3 a reality. It’s not in the style of DICE’s modern two-parter, but rather the original two games developed by Pandemic Studios (another team that tragically closed down…). There are several battles from the movies, and you can fight them on the ground or even in the sky behind the wheel of a plane. The graphics are cleaner and sharper, but still retain the original style, which is not a bad thing since this art style hasn’t become obsolete yet.
To play Star Wars: Battlefront 3: Legacy, you’ll need a PC copy of the original Star Wars: Battlefront 2, released in 2005, which can be loaded with the mod files available on ModDB, extending the Pandemic legacy into something that could stand the test of time in 2024. It should be added that the mod is still in development, so new content (gameplay mechanics) and bug fixes will be added.
