Joel Edgerton Talks Dark Matter Season 1 Finale – What Can We Expect From The Second Season?!

MOVIE NEWS – Dark Matter star Joel Edgerton is excited about possible future seasons and narrative possibilities. WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS from the season 1 finale!

Dark Matter star Joel Edgerton recently spoke about the series’ climactic finale and the exciting prospects for the sequel. The show’s first season finale brought a dramatic closure to the Dessen family, who, amidst a multiverse of chaos, crossed over through the Box into an uncharted world to start their lives anew, away from the myriad of alternate selves that flooded their original existence.

According to Screen Rant, Edgerton was genuinely excited about the narrative threads that could unfold in possible future seasons. “You got to keep the gang together, you know, what I mean?” – reflected the actor, highlighting the camaraderie and interaction between the ensemble cast. Edgerton continued,

“It’s funny, every time I think about the possibilities, the infinite nature of what is possible, and what’s exciting, it really, really gets the creative juices flowing.”

The actor also touched on the social aspect of storytelling. Viewers’ interpretations enhance the story. “And what is also exciting actually is hearing what other people think. Everybody’s wired to think differently,” he said. A particularly interesting point that Edgerton raised concerns the uncertainty surrounding the series finale – whether or not Daniela actually ended up with the “real” Jason. “I remember someone saying, but how do we know even at the end that Daniela has got the right Jason and that question breaks your brain,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Edgerton sees Dark Matter as having plenty of room for exploration. He noted

“Season one was really about Jason getting his life back from himself. We’ve now gotten to know more characters through the process and really particularly gotten to know and love Daniela and Amanda, and Charlie and Leighton and Ryan.”

The actor’s enthusiasm for his character and the development of the series is contagious. As he concluded,

“There’s sort of a smorgasbord of characters now that I think there’s any number of ways that it can go and I’m excited for what happens as soon as anyone’s willing to pull the trigger.”

Season 2 of Dark Matter may touch on unresolved stories

Season 1 of Dark Matter ended with a seemingly perfect resolution for Jason Dessen and his family. They finally found a semblance of peace in a new, uncharted world. However, the series finale subtly hinted that the show’s universe still holds unresolved narratives and latent possibilities. Especially with the side characters who are entangled in the dilemmas of their own multiverse.

The focus on Jason’s quest to reunite with his family was both compelling and complete.

However, the narrative door was left open for other characters such as Amanda, Ryan and Voight. They are still deeply stuck in the infinite complexity of the multiverse. This lineup provides an excellent cue for Dark Matter Season 2 to explore the backstories of these characters without relying on the Dessen family as a central anchor.

One exciting possibility for the continuation of the series lies in characters like Jason2’s Amanda and the original Ryan, who found each other in a utopian world. There is rich story potential in exploring Ryan’s desire to return to his own reality. All this is in a narrative arc that can provide new perspectives and deepen the exploration of the series’ central themes of identity and existence.
