Viggo Mortensen Would Play Aragorn Again – On These Two Conditions!

MOVIE NEWS – The movie Aragorn will star in, The Hunt for Gollum, will hit theatres in 2026.

The Lord of the Rings universe is alive and well: after the two published trilogies and the series The Rings of Power, Tolkien’s stories would be expanded (audio-visually) with a new film called “The Hunt for Gollum”. The production will be directed by Andy Serkis, who revealed that familiar characters will also appear in this feature film but did not reveal who. However, those who know the original story know that Aragorn plays an essential role in it…

The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Viggo Mortensen at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival about the possible return of his character.

The actor discussed the upcoming film in the Lord of the Rings universe and his possible return to Middle-earth. He detailed the two main reasons he would want to take on the mantle of Strider again.

The script and the money – without them, there is no Aragorn

In short and to the point, Viggo Mortensen listed these two reasons why he would play Aragorn again:

“I haven’t read a script. So I don’t know. The script is the most important thing to me unless I’m broke, I have no money and I’m lucky to get any job. So it depends.”

So these are the two main factors that play into his decision. Understandably, he should be happy with the script. Obviously, it is important that Aragorn has some presence on the screen. In principle, the story can guarantee the latter as long as they remain faithful to Tolkien’s related writings.

Let’s not forget that the production directed by Serkis will be produced by Peter Jackson. Thus, all signs point to a fantastic production being made in competent hands. He will try to faithfully reproduce the history of Middle Earth. As for the movie, we have to wait more than a year for the release, as The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to hit the cinema screens in 2026.
