Why Is It Likely That This Group of Classic PS Games Will Never Arrive on PlayStation 5?! [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – According to Digital Foundry, native emulation of PS3 games on the PlayStation 5 console is hideously difficult.

Do you miss the PS3 generation and its games? This is normal because there were a lot of quality titles at the time. Native emulation of these games on PlayStation 5 is no longer possible. Of course, you can play a selected group of titles via streaming if you have a PS Plus Premium subscription. Games like Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and many more have not been re-released. They are not playable on any platform other than Sony’s PS3, and now it’s time to address an important issue.

In recent weeks, rumours have been circulating on social media that PlayStation is working on a native emulation of PS3 games for the PlayStation 5.

Digital Foundry addressed the issue in one of its latest videos. He gave an interesting explanation as to why this is unlikely to happen.

We’ll try to keep it as simple as possible because there are too many technical terms, but hardware and software experts note that the PS3 has many technical limitations due to the Cell processor. According to Wccftech, this would hinder backwards compatibility with the PS5. Specifically, the SPU co-processors that are part of the Cell CPU (they were responsible for graphics processing and other tasks) are the problem.

Why won’t many PS3 games run natively on PlayStation 5?

It turns out that this architecture does not fit well with modern x86 processors. These cause critical performance issues. One alternative, however, is to release titles that don’t rely as heavily on SPU co-processors. However, high-quality games still use them. Digital Foundry cites Killzone 2 as an example, which could never be emulated due to SPUs. However, it is possible that we could convert certain games in such a way that they can be launched on the market.
