You’ll Never Guess What Title George Lucas Originally Intended for Star Wars…

MOVIE NEWS – The original title of Star Wars is not only long and strange, but would have given a completely different atmosphere to George Lucas’ film…

Star Wars fandom often finds all sorts of excuses to criticize the franchise. Sometimes we can agree with them, other times – mostly – not. However, even we have to admit that the original title proposed by George Lucas would have been a relatively poor choice.

For all the whining and criticism we’ve heard about Disney’s The Acolyte series, the series hasn’t put us in the awkward position it should have been.

Originally, the title of Star Wars would have been none other than: “The Adventures of Luke Skywalker as Taken from The Journal of The Whills Saga # I: The Star Wars.”

Not only is it ridiculously and unnecessarily long, but it also sounds terribly boring. If Star Wars had chosen this title, the franchise would not exist today; we are almost 99 per cent sure of that.

Knowing this, fans have a few words of wisdom/nuggets to share with all creators. For example, the eternal truth of “write drunk, edit sober”. But there’s a problem with this advice: this title, according to some, came pretty late in the creative process.

“I don’t know about ‘originally’. That title was very late in the process,” Redditor RunDNA said of the title’s date, before giving the complete development timeline.

After the truth is revealed, some believe that this is proof that sometimes “meddling” is helpful. “George Lucas’s oeuvre is proof that executive meddling is sometimes a good thing,” argued a now-deleted user.
