The Witcher 3: Even More Cut Content Restored! [VIDEO]

With the help of the recently released REDkit modding toolset, the floodgates have been opened to all the cut and unused content in the nine-year-old game.

REDkit has completely opened up the finale of Geralt’s story. Last time, for example, we reported that the ending of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was much longer than the final version and that Yennefer could have surprised us. But now, nothing story related has surfaced, and a modder, MerseyRockoff, has found the in-game audio files and text for a cutout mission sequence in which Geralt doesn’t exactly fight (something we’ve come to expect from him)…

Instead, Geralt would rather get on a boat and race! This is what the modder is trying to reimplement completely. All dialog, characters, diary entries and text are the work of CD Projekt RED, and he recreated them using REDkit. This way, the Boat Race mod fits very well into The Witcher 3 (it doesn’t “stick out”), and Geralt can talk to the race organizers and the townspeople about the boat races, and even listen to the dialog on the streets.

In the races you can choose to represent Novigrad or Redania (they are the sponsors) and there are four championships (Novigrad Regatta, Oxenfurt Regatta, Helmsman’s Dash, Rally of the Wrecks). In the races, the burning wood represents the checkpoints, and if you win, you get a bunch of money and experience points. Installing the mod isn’t difficult either: unzip the modBoatRaces folder into the Mods subfolder of The Witcher 3 folder, then extract the dlcBoatRaces folder into the DLC folder. Then run the script merger to debug it, and if everything works, Geralt is ready to go. So it’s easy and the installation takes only a minute.

The Boat Races mod can be downloaded from Nexus Mods. It can be a nice relaxing break between two butchering sessions, as it’s mostly a calming experience, while also having a competitive turn.
