Star Wars Outlaws: Going Fun-Centric in Size [VIDEO]

Massive Entertainment has designed the world of Star Wars Outlaws to ensure it never gets boring, learning from past mistakes of creating vast but empty open worlds. Ubisoft developers are now creating a smaller, yet far more engaging world.

In an interview with IGN, the game’s directors Julian Gerighty and Mathias Karlson explained that their focus is on content rather than size. They don’t aim for a massive scale just for the sake of it, but rather a more compact experience that is consistently entertaining. Karlson highlighted that they calibrated the game world to always offer something interesting and fun. If you encounter something that stands out, you can explore it immediately, and all missions are interconnected, providing a seamless experience.

According to a previous report by WCCFTech, the game’s size essentially doubles when considering side missions. The protagonist, Kay Vess, undertakes various side quests, including professional missions, quick contract jobs, Sabacc games, and the Asteroid Field mini-game. Additionally, there are continuous events like ambushes, Imperial arrests, and battles with criminal organizations.

Gerighty told IGN that something exciting happens every two to three minutes in the game. Players can choose to participate in these events. Moreover, players can gather information in cantinas, which leads them to new locations in the open world. The game also features a “fog of war” that players can clear, revealing even more areas to explore.

Star Wars Outlaws has already gone gold, and the manufacturing of physical copies has begun. The game is set to release on August 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and Amazon Luna.
