The Xbox Game Pass, which recently increased its prices (we detailed the new Hungarian pricing yesterday), may soon add a significant title to its lineup. According to Tom Henderson, a reliable insider, Microsoft’s subscription service will bolster its offerings with a major game in July.
Originally, the plan was to announce the game alongside the price hike to soften the blow of the subscription increase, but that didn’t pan out. Instead, the bad news about the price increase hit separately, causing frustration among subscribers.
Henderson suggests that the next big addition will be a game from Activision Blizzard King, specifically Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. This game was released on November 10, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, making it the latest installment currently available. Developed mainly by Sledgehammer Games, with the Zombies mode and Ranked Play multiplayer segment created by Treyarch, the game also saw contributions from other studios under Activision Blizzard King (Infinity Ward, Raven Software, Beenox, High Moon Studios).
The game did not receive outstanding reviews and did not achieve the level of success that Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King had hoped for. Fans were not pleased even at launch, and sales dropped compared to the 2022 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. However, the publisher highlighted that the third Modern Warfare in the new trilogy achieved record player engagement. Its fourth season, Reloaded, launched at the end of June with new maps, game modes, playlists, weapons, and events.
It’s no surprise that Call of Duty is the next big title on Xbox Game Pass.
