“Scars For Life” – Actress of Alien: Romulus Is Shocked by the Movie She’s In!

MOVIE NEWS – The star of Alien: Romulus warns kids who might fall for the film that they’d better not, because they could be in for a treat…

This August, director Fede Álvarez presents a reimagining of a classic franchise with the film Alien: Romulus. But before the film debuts in theatres, star Isabela Merced has already revealed that the film will feature some intensely gruesome scenes. Set 20 years after the events of 1979’s Alien, Romulus stars Merced – alongside Cailee Spaeny, among others – as a team of colonists who explore an abandoned space station and come across the most horrific life form in the universe.

Ahead of Alien: Romulus’ August 16, 2024 release, Merced revealed to Total Film (via GamesRadar ) that those who step inside the R-rated sci-fi horror flick can expect a lifetime of nightmares, thanks to some scenes that will stick in human memory. Even the film’s actors were shocked and quite affected by one moment.

“I really do believe that there are specific sequences in this film that will scar some kids that sneak into the movie for life.”

That’s no surprise, as Álvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead featured some of the most intense and gory scenes in the long-running franchise. This was followed in 2016 by the equally stirring Don’t Breathe. According to his co-star Cailee Spaeny, it’s all part of what Álvarez is like as a director, and audiences should expect nothing less from the 46-year-old Uruguayan filmmaker.

Alien: Romulus explores a millennia-old myth

It’s easy to set up Alien: Romulus as another hyped sci-fi horror film. Especially since Álvarez himself called it unparalleled in human history… but the film delves deep into Roman mythology to explore its central themes. More precisely, the story of Romulus and Remus, which takes place before the foundation of Rome in 750 BC.

Earlier this year, Álvarez spoke about the myth and its connection to his new film, which he says is about “brotherhood.” He would also take fans deep into the Alien story and discuss the Weyland-Yutani corporation’s connection to Roman mythology.

“It’s based on the Romulus and Remus myth. If people aren’t familiar, it’s the creation myth of Rome. Romulus killed Remus. It’s not a siblingship that went down the right path. [Alien: Romulus] is also a film about siblinghood. A lot of the character stories are related to siblinghood.”

“As you may know, Weyland-Yutani, which is the big company in the Alien movies, has this obsession with Rome and Imperialist iconography. You really have to go deep into the canon, but a lot of the planets, and a lot of names come out of the early Roman Empire, either from rivers or cities.”

These are pretty intoxicating themes, but if anyone can do it, it’s definitely Álvarez, who flawlessly brought the themes of addiction and sacrifice in Evil Dead. It’s not without reason that he became one of the most sought-after filmmakers of the current generation…
